BETH CAR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Beth Car Presbyterian Church was first listed in General Assembly minutes in the Fayetteville Presbytery in 1836. There is no note of organization date. It is possible that the church was under the church of Scotland before 1836. The earliest written record o the Beth Car Presbyterian church appears in the diary of Eliza Ellis Robeson. The following entries are found:

March 25, 1858 - This day 39 years ago I was married. I am still spared for what I cannot tell, but God does all things well.

March 28, 1858 - Sabbath day, this day 39 years ago I was at church and I see only three that were with me that day at church: Col Byrne, T.J. and B. Robeson, the rest are gone to their long homes or moved away.

This places the date of her visit to Beth Car on March 28, 1819. From the family Bible and the Robeson Genealogy we find that Eliza Ellis was married to Samuel Robeson on March 25, 1819.

Her diary reveals much that happened in the years following.
